10 Do’s and 10 Don’ts For Choosing What Movie To Watch Tonight

7. Do Know Who's In It

People usually ask two questions about an upcoming movie, both are on this list, but the one that concerns us now is usually the first. Say it. Out loud. "Who's in it?" It's not that we're movie snobs and won't watch anything without Will Smith or Johnny Depp in it, we need to know who the actor or actress is because we're not going to invest two hours of our time along with our hard earned money for just anybody. Besides being a pretty face to stare at, the caliber of acting matters to everyone. The general audience that isn't in the 6 to 12 age range can tell good acting from bad acting. There's a reason why A-listers get paid 10 million dollars for a movie. The audience knows that even if the story is recycled garbage or if the director is a nobody, they can expect the A-lister to do what they do best. Shine. You don't get the story from it and the title makes no sense, hell it looks like a somber MIB sequel. But Will Smith's face is on it and for many people, it doesn't matter what kind of movie he's in. If he's in, they're all in. Know who's in a movie. It'll help you narrow down your choices quick. But be as it may, one shouldn't judge a book by its cover, hence the follow up question to "Who's in it?" is addressed in our next Do...

I'm a thinker/fantasizer who writes down his thoughts and fantasies hoping it makes sense to everyone else. Also I'm an aspiring screenwriter, but if I can work in film at all, I'd be happy. One day you may hear the name Ryan Kim and associate it with "Academy Award winning writer" or with "where's that guy with my coffee." If the latter comes true, please let it be Paul Thomas Anderson's coffee I'm getting.
