10 Do’s and 10 Don’ts For Choosing What Movie To Watch Tonight

5. Do Watch the Trailer

When I was a kid I looked forward going to the theater because I wasn't watching just one movie. I was watching like one and a fifth movies because before the main attraction was a 20 minute slot for the trailers. Each sneak peek peaked (see what I did there) my interest and made me want to watch more and more. But now, with a few clicks or few taps, trailers are instantly available on smartphones, smartpads, and other smart devices for your viewing pleasure. It's all the more advantageous because before you decide on a movie, you get a little taste to see if you like it. Yes, much like Rita's, Baskin Robbins, and any fast food chain with those awesome new Coke fountain drink machines. With the expansion of technology, people study movie trailers to predict how the film will play out. The Dark Knight Rises was a recent example of this. As soon as the trailer hit the internet, speculation and rumor began on possible plot lines and character identities and yada yada. Many people have been spoiled by such meanderings, so be careful to watch the trailer and just the trailer if you don't want spoilers. It gives just enough to whet your appetite, communicating the tone, story, and direction of the film. After viewing a trailer, most people know whether they want to watch the movie or not, but of course that can all change once the reviews start coming out...

I'm a thinker/fantasizer who writes down his thoughts and fantasies hoping it makes sense to everyone else. Also I'm an aspiring screenwriter, but if I can work in film at all, I'd be happy. One day you may hear the name Ryan Kim and associate it with "Academy Award winning writer" or with "where's that guy with my coffee." If the latter comes true, please let it be Paul Thomas Anderson's coffee I'm getting.
