10 Dumb Decisions In Star Wars We Can't Forgive

9. Episode I - The Force Works Because Of Midi-Chlorians

For all the flaws that came with the prequel trilogy, at least George Lucas' tried to take the stories in a new direction and focus on points of the mythology we might not have thought about.

However, his answer to the question "what is the force?" becomes less about belief and more about the contents of a person's blood. And thus began the explanation of special blood cells that seem to be the focal point for how the Jedi Council determine who gets to train with a lightsaber or not.

It's unclear what George Lucas was initially planning when he introduced Midi-Chlorians into the Star Wars universe, but since Episode I contained senatorial gatherings and trade negotiations in between pod-racing and lightsaber battles, the implication is that George was going for something absurdly new for future films.

What makes this notion all the more stupid is that it's a small detail Lucas introduced that really, no one ever cared about. Thankfully, this thread appeared to be be abandoned in later films which is a good thing, but fans will never forget Liam Neeson earnestly explaining to a child that the reason why he is special is because of the microorganisms in his blood.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
