10 Dumb Movies With Genius Plot Twists
7. The Groceries Enter The Real World - Sausage Party
Sausage Party is surely a movie that Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, and Evan Goldberg came up with while hot-boxing the finest, dankest kush available, and somehow, the trio convinced Sony to spend almost $20 million on actually making it.
Though the film certainly rouses some gut-busting laughs, it's also pretty much a one-note joke centered around grocery-related puns, and only the most surface-level political satire.
While much of the third act is comprised of the groceries violently repelling their human aggressors - and let's not forget that food orgy - it truly transcends into meta genius in its final two minutes, when Firewater (Bill Hader) reveals that the groceries are all cartoons voiced by human celebrities.
At that point, the groceries enter a portal created by Gum (Scott Underwood), allowing them to travel to the human dimension and presumably mete out violence revenge against them.
An alternate ending was planned to actually show the groceries emerging on the other side, but in the end it was left to the audience's imagination. Even so, it was a deliciously smart way to wrap up an otherwise unapologetically stupid movie.
