10 Dumbest Decisions By Lord Of The Rings Characters
3. Frodo Trusts Gollum
When you trust a legitimate villain, where does it get you? "Caught in a web, soon you'll be eaten", that's where it gets you.
Frodo attained many allies throughout his journey, but very few of them could understand what he was going through, which is why it made sense that he'd feel so close to Gollum. As Ring-Bearers, they both understood the pain that The One Ring could cause and therefore shared a common spirit.
Still, Frodo's decision to trust Gollum was utterly absurd, as not only was he given plenty of warning signs that the former Hobbit would be problematic, but he understood better than anyone else how The Ring could corrupt and destroy a person. Surely he knew how Gollum wouldn't be able to give it up?
As can be expected when trusting a sneaky little creature like Gollum, he ends up luring Frodo into Shelob's lair with the intention to steal The Ring from his cold corpse after the giant spider is done with him. You can try all you like to bring Sméagol out, but ultimately Gollum is a dangerous threat, not a trusted ally.
