10 Dumbest Decisions By Lord Of The Rings Characters
4. Frodo Decides To Keep The Ring
Time to return now to Frodo, once again making a decision that makes barely any sense. You'd think that all the struggle and toil that went into venturing to Mordor would have made Sam and Frodo's arrival to Mount Doom a joyous occasion. However, it was anything but, as right at the end of the journey, Frodo found himself overpowered by The Ring and decided to keep it for himself.
Just as Frodo was stood over the fiery pits of Mount Doom, he took a second to look at The Ring before turning to his loyal friend Sam and stating that "The Ring is mine" before breaking it from its chain and placing it on his finger.
If it weren't for Gollum's interference, The One Ring wouldn't have been destroyed. Meaning all the glory Frodo gets for saving the world shouldn't belong to him, as his final intentions were not to destroy it.
Although this can be chalked up to The Ring's influence rather than Frodo's own decision making, it still begs the question of how he thought he could get away with it. They were in the middle of Mordor, with an object that The Dark Lord Sauron can sense when it's being worn. How exactly did he think he'd make a quick getaway in "the land where the shadows lie"?
