10 Dumbest Decisions In Fantasy Movie History

8. Whitewashing - Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time

While Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time wasn't exactly a cinematic masterpiece, its biggest mistake wasn't made by one of its characters, but behind the scenes.

For a movie set in Persia (modern-day Iran), a bold, and wildly misguided decision was made to cast Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role.

But the controversial casting didn't end there. In fact, the main cast in its entirety looks remarkably white - with the exception of Ben Kingsley, whose father was of Indian descent - and it's all too noticeable against the backdrop of ancient Persian culture and architecture.

It seems to be a remarkably lazy casting effort, simply hiring well-known Hollywood names instead of making a concerted effort to find Iranian-born actors to fill the roles.

Yes, The Sands of Time was another uninteresting video-game adaptation, and yes, it wasn't ever going to be anything more than a cash-grab, the movie's blatant whitewashing was too much of a slap in the face for the actual film to be even remotely enjoyable.
