2. Sidney Goes Back To Unmask Ghostface - Scream 2
As much as the Scream series has relished making fun of dumb horror movie tropes, it too has succumbed to them on occasion.
And one of the most egregious examples to date occurs in Scream 2, when franchise hero Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and her pal Hallie (Elise Neal) end up trapped in the back of a car commandeered and then crashed by Ghostface.
In a gut-wrenchingly tense sequence, the pair crawl over Ghostface's unconscious body, but rather than use the nearby dead cop's gun to shoot Ghostface or even stab them with their own knife, the two flee the area.
But that's not the truly stupid thing. Sid then stops in her tracks and decides that she can't go on without knowing the killer's identity. Hallie vocally protests this decision, even telling Sid, "Smart people run. We're smart people, so we should just get the f**k outta here."
But Sid doesn't listen, and walks back to the crashed car all while Hallie waits in place.
But predictably, Ghostface has managed to slink away during their little argument, and when Sid realises they're gone, she turns back to see Ghostface brutally slaughtering Hallie.
Congratulations Sid - you got your friend killed and didn't even find out who Ghostface was. Bravo.
