10 Dumbest Movie Plot Twists Of 2014

4. Galvatron Is Megatron - Transformers: Age Of Extinction

The Twist: You'd be forgiven for thinking Michael Bay had gotten a little self-aware with Transformers: Age Of Extinction, which shows a massive corporation trying to replicate Transformers for financial gain, but completely missing the point of their appeal. Predictably it's just another boring narrative diversion in between the equally boring fight scenes, although he does try (and fail) to inject some fun into proceedings by providing audiences with a quote unquote twist. Turns out that the big prototype robot, Galvatron, isn't actually controlled by the company, but by Decepticon leader Megatron, giving the presumed-dead alien a new body. Why It's So Dumb: If you're familiar with the Generation 1 cartoon, in particular the re-defining The Transformers: The Movie, then this is a null-surprise - in that film Megatron is explicitly transformed into Galvatron. Although even if you've never seen any of the less-offensive takes on the character, it's still obvious. Galvatron is made using Megatron as a model, he looks like Megatron and Megatron is such a popular character (read: his merchandise sells well) that Hasbro wouldn't let him lie. The whole change of body was probably only brought about because Hugo Weaving finally realised just how bad the movies were. It seems rather perfunctory to point out a Transformers movie has poor plotting, but this is such a dire attempt at narrative intrigue it needs to be mentioned. The entire second act is built around this point, and yet there's no desire to give it any purpose.
