The Twist: Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese travel to 2017 in an attempt to stop Judgement Day. It's all very been there, done that, except with one key difference - out of nowhere we learn that Genisys, the precursor to Skynet in a new timeline made by events that are never explained, is actually just a bit of software; an app that syncs your phone, tablet and laptop. Why It's So Dumb: No doubt a lot of you were expecting the 'John Connor is now a Terminator' twist here, but that's not the dumbest thing Genisys offered up. Oh, it's pretty inane and rather unnecessary (it's purely for the audience's benefit, not any of the characters), but the worst thing about it was it getting spoiled in the trailers, rather than anything from the film itself. No, Terminator 5's stupidest twist was the reveal that Skynet is now a syncing program. Erm... guys? We already have that. Making the destroyer of humanity something that could sit next to Angry Birds is certainly ridiculous, but having the scary future tech be something that we all already use everyday is plain idiotic (and shows how long this script had been in production for). It's made all worst by the 'foreshadowing' that "Genisys is Skynet", revealing in the first quarter of an hour that the stupidly misspelled title is being hamfistedly forced into being narratively relevant. God, this movie was a mess.
