10 Dumbest Movie Reboots Ever

8. Dracula Untold (2014)

The Mummy
Universal Pictures

Despite all of the crap that the 2017 Mummy reboot gets, it actually wasn't Universal's first ham-fisted attempt at building itself a Dark Universe.

No, that glorious honor goes to none other than Dracula Untold. Clearly inspired by the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (as all of Hollywood was and is), Universal thought to themselves that the best way to repackage Dracula for a new generation was to ditch everything interesting about the character and just turn him into a super bland, super dull superhero with a tragic backstory.

Thus, the film is way more interested in giving us big ugly looking sequences of CGI buffoonery posing as action than it is in delivering anything remotely resembling the most classic versions of Dracula.

But again, there is an interesting nugget of an idea at the film's core; how did Dracula become Dracula? Yes, its a blatant attempt to cash-in on the success of 'gritty reboots' ala Batman Begins, but Dracula is an interesting character whose story should at least have potential, right?

Apparently not. The film fumbles even the simplest of moments that should be easy slam-dunks. His final transformation into the Dracula of lore happens when he is forced to drink the blood of his wife in order to save their child.

Clunky noble intentions aside, he sucks her blood when they are literally surrounded by countless other dead and dying people. It's played as some tremendous sacrifice the wife makes, but it's undermined by the fact they're both two of the stupidest characters in movie history for not noticing the hundreds of other options they had.
