10 Dumbest Reasons Movies Got Cancelled

5. Not Enough Australians In The Cast - Justice League: Mortal

Long before justice dawned in the DCEU, and before even Tony Stark established the MCU while announcing that he was Iron Man, there were plans to bring the Justice League to the big screen. Among the climate of Batman Begins and Superman Returns, this would have come with George Miller at the helm.

The movie that would have seen Armie Hammer as Batman and D.J. Catrona as Superman faced multiple issues during its ultimately fruitless production, one of the biggest being the writers' strike of 2007. This posed the same problem many productions have been facing in 2023, but there was something else.

The plan, with Miller himself hailing from Australia, was to shoot the movie in Sydney. However, citing reasons such as how many Australians were in the cast, and the refusal of a production rebate, the Australian Film Commission refused the director, leaving the movie with nowhere to shoot.

Other issues, such as the success of Batman's standalone Dark Knight series were factors, but Miller himself confirmed that alongside the WGA strike, the main reason for the film being cancelled was the inability to take production to his home country.
