10 Dumbest Sci-Fi Movie Decisions (That People Survived)

9. Ripley Opening The Door To Space In Aliens

Aliens James Cameron
20th Century Fox

In the first Alien film, Ellen Ripley manages to survive the Xenomorph on the Nostromo by avoiding the creature as much as possible. When she inevitably leaves the starship via a shuttle, the Nostromo self-destructs, but it didn't kill the beast. Unfortunately, she finds it on her ship.

She manages to work her way into a spacesuit and blasts it into space. That wasn't a stupid decision, and after she hit it with a grappling hook, she managed to blast it with the ship's engines. The dumb decision she shouldn't have survived came in the sequel, Aliens.

At the end of the film, Ripley hops into an exo-suit loader and confronts the Xenomorph Queen. Ripley challenges her with one of the best confrontational lines in movie history, which of course, was, "Get away from her, you b***h!" When the fight is over, the Queen and loader are at the bottom of an airlock, and Ripley is on the ladder, attempting to flee.

She then opens the airlock while still inside, which should have killed her. She hung on despite the immense pressure working to push her out into space, and this time, she didn't have a spacesuit. She almost did get thrown out, but in the end, the Queen was defeated, and Ripley survived.
