10 Dumbest Sci-Fi Movie Decisions (That People Survived)

5. Sending The Entire GCPD Into The Sewers In The Dark Knight Rises

Aliens James Cameron

When Police Commissioner Jim Gordon learned that Bane was hiding in the city's sewers, he sent some cops to flush him out. Ok, not "some" cops — he sent in nearly the entirety of the Gotham City Police force! Almost every officer went into the sewers, and they were quickly trapped inside, which is what Bane wanted.

It's fair to say that the stakes were incredibly high, and Gordon may have felt that he had no other option. That's all well and good, but as any military commander knows, you never commit your entire force to an operation when the enemy has the advantage, and the battle extends to more than one front.

Once the cops were locked inside, they were stuck there for quite some time. They could have all died, and while they were inside, the city devolved into a dystopian nightmare, where the criminals oversaw a perverted form of justice, which is to say, they killed the good guys for fun.

Had Gordon been a bit smarter, he would have held a large number in reserve. Fortunately, and thanks to Batman, the cops survived. Still, it could have gone another way, making The Dark Knight Rises a potentially darker film.
