10 Dumbest Star Wars Movie Moments

star_wars_37392 Star Wars: a title familiar to every man, woman and child who hasn't been living under a rock for the last 45 years. Such is the success of the Star Wars franchise that it is considered unusual not to have seen the films. Surely a series so well received and popular has adequate plot coherence not to warrant a list of stupid moments? Right? Well actually this is true of very few movies in existence today. Almost every great film has it's not-so-great characters, plot devices and logical failures, and Star Wars is no exception. This list ranks ranks some of the more ridiculous, nonsensical and just plain dumb moments in one of the greatest film series ever made.

10. Destruction Of The Death Star

UntitledThe Moment: The rebels have only one chance to destroy the death star before it in turn destroys them; after navigating a dangerous trench of TIE fighters and auto defence turrets, the rebel pilots must fire a proton torpedo into a hole only two metres across. Luke achieves this, the entire station blows up, and the rebels win. Hooray. Why it's Dumb: How on Earth could the imperial engineers who created the death star overlook such a potentially catastrophic design flaw? The station is so huge that in one scene it is mistaken for a small moon, presumably taking years to construct due to its sheer size. After this monumental workload was it really too much effort to cover up the ultimate Achilles heel which is only two metres across? Apparently so. All this goes without saying that the ball of fire caused by the explosion is scientifically impossible, given that for fire to happen oxygen must be burnt (you don't tend to get a lot of oxygen in space).
