10 Dumbest Things In The Worst Summer Movie Season Ever
5. Blatant Product Placement - Transformers: Age Of Extinction
The Scene: Again, not an individual scene, but a number of repugnant, shameless product placements throughout Michael Bay's billion dollar-earning commercial juggernaut. There's Victoria's Secret billboards thrust into the middle of robot fights, Beats headphones displayed during technological exposition, and most horrendously, an extended Bud Light promo after Mark Wahlberg's protagonist accidentally crashes into a truck of the cold stuff. He even takes a swig of one before the scene ends. Why It's Dumb: Yes, we're all aware of Michael Bay's agenda as a filmmaker, but would it hurt him to tone things down a little? We understand that his movies cost a lot of money and therefore need a lot of corporate piggy-backing, but the Bud Light shilling in particular isn't just shameless, it's obnoxious, with Wahlberg all-but winking at the camera as he takes a drink, as though a little self-awareness somehow negates the fact this is horrifically product-driven filmmaking.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
