10 Embarrassing Thoughts We All Had Watching Famous Movies
7. Relating To Charlie Kaufman - Adaptation
Spike Jonze's Adaption follows self-loathing writer Charlie Kaufman as he struggles to adapt a New York Times best selling book into a screenplay. The opening of the film features a voice-over where we can only hear the inner thoughts of our main character. He wonders if his baldness is due to his unhappiness. He refers to himself as a walking cliche. He wonders if he wasn't so overweight would he be happier. He thinks he's ugly and nothing can change it. He wonders why he feels the need to apologize for his existence. The strange thing about this couple minute monologue is that most of us can relate. Most people are insecure and they rarely share these thoughts to anybody expect maybe a select few. Throughout the film, Charlie exposes more and more of himself to us and we can totally relate to his struggles. Not that we would admit it to anybody or anything. It is indeed a depressing thing to have so much in common with a man such as this.
