5. Black Widow Escapes Her Interrogators (The Avengers)

Marvel StudiosMarvel StudiosScarlett Johansson€™s Black Widow had to wait until The Winter Soldier for some thorough character development, and could still do with a solo film of her own before she€™s as well-rounded as some of her male counterparts, but her introductory scene in The Avengers doesn€™t put a foot wrong. When we first see the film€™s only female superhero, her interrogator slaps her round the face, and she seems to be in need of a hero herself. It€™s a little disappointing, but not unusual for the genre, after all. Then the phone rings for Natasha, who suddenly switches to a tone of complete boredom and protests that she€™s working, while her captors look on in confusion. There€™s a brief conversation, and when it€™s finished, the Black Widow is in control of the situation. She takes out most of her interrogators when she€™s still strapped to her chair and breaks herself free with a gravity-defying backflip, all while Coulson waits patiently at the other end of the line. Natasha grabs the phone and switches straight to business, but makes sure to grab her heels on the way out; those things can be expensive, after all.
