10 Epic Fantasy Movies You Probably Haven't Seen

6. The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad

The golden age of cinema was a great time for epic fantasy, particularly regarding heroic journies through mythical lands. From Jason and the Argonauts' ghastly stop-motion skeletons to The Thief of Bagdad's monstrous-sized genie, the spectacle of these cinematic behemoths still holds up today.

The Sinbad movies are no different, and The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad stands out as the best of the bunch. Sinbad must find three keys to unlock secret powers and treasures before the evil magician Koura (played by Doctor Who's Tom Baker) gets there first. Sinbad must battle magically-animated sculptures, homunculi, and a very angry one-eyed centaur to defeat Koura.

It's a phenomenal adventure, becoming the first-ever recipient of the Saturn Award for Best Fantasy Film, and rightly so. With the failure of Dreamwork's Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, fantasy adventure movies are on the decline. However, The Golden Voyage's competent creature-feautres and nail-biting fights prove there is so much potential to retell these epic heroic ventures.
