10 Epic Movie Trailers That Set The Bar Too High

9. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Say what you will about Zack Snyder, he does know how to create a spectacle and this entry is no different.

Pitched as the grand prologue to Warner Bros's cinematic universe ambitions, the trailers for Batman V Superman were gargantuan in scale and fiercely thunderous in tone. That final shot of Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman gearing up for battle was the kicker; the ultimate bid to get money rolling in.

On first glance, it was incredibly exciting; two of the most iconic heroes clashing in the ultimate showdown? It sounded like a match-up for the ages that fans had waited years for.

The film itself, however? An utter mess by most accounts.

While visuals were strong and action flashy, Batman V Superman threw far too many ideas and plot points into the mix in a desperate bid to catch up with Marvel. The titular battle only took up a small amount of time and was poorly justified from a narrative perspective.

The trailers relied more on showing as many recognisable characters as possible which were not followed through on for the final product. It fell well short of the sheer amount of work laid out in the promotional material.
