10 Epic Movie Trailers That Set The Bar Too High
2. Tron Legacy
Many a science fiction production marked the eighties as a golden age for the genre, but Tron was one that went by somewhat overlooked. As a cult classic, it had cultivated its fanbase, but had never been followed up on the big screen since its initial arrival.
Years later when a sequel announced, those who had watched the 1982 release were naturally intrigued, waiting to see what Disney would do for the next entry in the series. With technology having moved forward so drastically over twenty-eight years, the progression in presentation was massive.
There was a vigorous marketing blitz for the movie, with the trailer showing Sam Flynn venturing inside virtual reality to find his missing father. The visuals were undeniably sublime throughout and the soundtrack from Daft Punk was a near seamless fit for the production.
The return of Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner was also welcomed by fans, who showed up to cinemas in large numbers.
On an aesthetic level, the film definitely delivered, but everything else was merely passable in comparison to the original cult hit, most notably its story and characters which lacked depth. It could never measure up and for the last decade the franchise has remained on hiatus. Disney is seemingly unwilling to touch it now, having moved on to the gargantuan efforts of the MCU and Star Wars.
