2. Y Tu Mama Tambien (2001)

Julio and Tenoch are two young men with a lusty attitude to life. Their girlfriends are going for a trip to Italy so they shag them one last time. When their girlfriends have left, the pair get bored very quickly. At a wedding, They meet an older woman called Luisa and try to get her attention by promising to take her to a heavenly beach. Luisa declines but then takes the boys up on their offer when she finds out her husband has been cheating on her. The trio set off for the beach and swap tales about sex and relationships. On a night stop Luisa phones her husband and tearfully tells him goodbye. Tenoch goes to her room to find shampoo but instead finds a distraught Luisa. Whilst comforting her, things get sexual and they end up in bed together. Julio watches jealously from the hall. Julio tells Tenoch that he shagged his girlfriend and Tenoch goes nuts saying he shagged Julio's girlfriend. Luisa is in the middle of this and threatens to leave them. Starting off on their adventure again, the trio find an isolated beach where thy can unwind. Luisa phones her husband again and says a wistful goodbye. Later that night they get very drunk and laugh about how many women including Luisa that they have both shagged. A threesome unfolds that night. In the morning Luisa gets up early and leaves the two boys to wake up naked next to each other. This freaks them out. They head off home and leave Luisa to explore the coves. The narrator tells us that the boys start seeing new girls after being dumped by their old ones, and also that the boys don't hang out any longer. On a chance meeting a year later, the boys catch up over a cup of coffee and Tenoch tells Julio that Luisa died of cancer a month after their trip, she knew she was dying when she was with them. The two boys never see each other again. There is raw and rampant sexuality coming from the two boys in this film. It is exceedingly frank in its depictions of full frontal nudity and sexual acts but it does not come off as gratuitous or exploitive. The director handles the erotic element of the film very well and it just fits naturally into the storyline. After all, it is only natural that two boys of Julio's and Tenoch's age would be sex mad. The film also has a wider political agenda which makes the film serious rather than a mere tale of Mexican boys shagging. Political and social class divisions ultimately put a stop to the boys' friendship. I don't know anything about Mexico but I do know you can learn something about it from this film. And enjoy the sexy capers.
