It's a good thing the MCU seems to be gearing up for alternate universes, because this particular event has world-changing stakes that cannot be undone - especially with its effects on all mutant-kind.

In this event, the Scarlet Witch, whose reality bending powers have become too great to control, creates a "perfect" world where mutants are superior and her family is happy. She even creates two sons for herself out of nothing. Though it eventually crumbles when heroes who remember the "real" world fight back against Wanda's control, the end of the event sees Wanda taking away the powers of half the mutants in the world with the words "No More Mutants", leaving permanent damage to the mutant population as a result.

Not only does this set up the previously mentioned Messiah Complex, it also brings to mutantkind one of its greatest defeats at the hands of one of its own, and leads to the desperate bids for survival that make up some of the X-Men's best stories. It also brought iconic characters Wiccan and Speed to the Marvel Universe, something that the eventually Avengerless MCU will be grateful for once they actually decide to bring the Young Avengers to the screen.
