6. Adventureland

Jesse Eisenberg made a name for himself playing awkard, introverted intellectual types - it's safe to say that he's not exactly treading new ground with his character James Brennan in Adventureland, a rather shy and somewhat awkward student who takes a job at an amusement park to raise some much-needed cash. That he's hardly challenging his typecasting doesn't really matter when the script - and his performance - is so engaging. Co-starring with Kristen Stewart (proving again that she's so much better than the Twilight movies would have had us believe) and Ryan Reynolds, Adventureland is yet another welcome addition to the American coming-of-age genre. Coming-of-age movies occasionally feel as if they're on the verge of oversaturating the American independent film market, but with Adventureland being joined by other greats such as The Spectacular Now and The Way, Way Back there's clearly still plenty of life in them.
