10 Essential Movies Quentin Tarantino Demands You See

2. Rio Bravo

Returning to the Western once again - as well as Tarantino's list of his favourite films of all time - and another Howard Hawks movie is on the cards, albeit a very different film to the comedy His Girl Friday. This is perhaps the finest Western of his career and one which Tarantino is sure to find appealing on account of its "hang-out" vibe. Tarantino loves to have his characters sitting around chatting for good chunks of his films before the action kicks in, delicately teasing out character traits and hinting at things to come through dialogue and gestures alone. Like Tarantino at his best, Rio Bravo also serves as something of a dissection of the genre; a culmination of everything Hawks had tried to do with it up to this point. Rio Bravo also serves another function in Tarantino's life, using it as a test to see whether he should take a relationship to the next level: "€œWhen I€™m getting serious about a girl, I show her Rio Bravo and she better f**king like it."
