10 Essential Movies Quentin Tarantino Demands You See

9. His Girl Friday

Tarantino might have wished he'd made Battle Royale more than any other film since 1992 but it wasn't good enough to make it onto his list of best movies of all time. Howard Hawks' His Girl Friday was one of the lucky few Tarantino judged as a timeless masterpiece. If you're familiar with the films of Howard Hawks it's immediately apparent where Tarantino gets his love of snappy dialogue from. His Girl Friday represents Hawks at the top of his game, with Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell firing one witty and abrasive line after another back and forth. When Tarantino first saw His Girl Friday he said, "I thought that it was the best movie I ever saw," and, like Hawks, decided that a great director would be judged by his body of work. Like Howard Hawks, Quentin Tarantino has made it his mission to be bold, creative and whenever possible unpredictable.
