10 Essential Mumblecore Films

9. All The Real Girls (2003)

One of the earliest outings in the genre was helmed by David Gordon Green, who has since gone on to direct Pineapple Express and Your Highness. His first movie, All the Real Girls, stars Zooey Deschanel, Paul Schneider, Shea Whigham and Danny McBride in his debut movie role. Set in a small southern town, Paul (Schneider) fixes cars and lives at home with his mother. Despite this fact, he is still known as a womanizer, having slept with most of the women in the town. However, Paul is beginning to tire of this life and wants to change. He begins to fall for Noel (Deschanel), the teenage sister of his best friend Tip (Whigham). Obviously, Tip completely disapproves of the relationship, but they continue to see each other which leads to a tear in the friendship of Paul and Tip. All the Real Girls is great because it€™s about how sometimes day to day life can just be difficult. It is about the choices we made in the past and how they can always haunt us. It asks the question, are you always going to be the person you are now, or have the choices you've made in the past ruined any chance to change?
