10 Essential Parts Of Movie Franchises (That Weren’t Introduced Until The Sequel)
5. The Future - Back To The Future Part II
The Iconic Element: We're coming out of the awful tunnel of people thoughtlessly posting on social media that "today" is the day Marty McFly travelled to the future, demanding a hoverboard be delivered to their door right now and reimbursement for all the wrong sports bets they made (oddly no one seems desperate for Jaws 19). Since about 2010, people have been falling for this over and over, not quite realising the thirty year increments the franchise works in. So, in case there was any doubt on the matter, it was October 21st 2015 where Marty (and Doc and Jennifer) went to. When It Was Actually Introduced: Of course, those claims are wrong in more ways than one; contrary to what most of the posts claim, Marty didn't go to the future in Back To The Future, but its sequel. OK, so that's some Way Of/Enter The Dragon persnicketiness right there, but does serve as a nice in to the reminder that all that double-tied future nonsense wasn't introduced until Part II. It's testament to the under-appreciated sequel that even though many people dismiss it, popular culture is still completely enamoured with the world it presented.
