10 Essential Summer Blockbusters That Aren't Part Of A Franchise

2. Inside Out

2014 was the first year without a release from Pixar since 2005, before they were bought by Disney. This year will correct that with not one, but two Pixar films, and what€™s more both are original ideas rather than sequels. The latter, The Good Dinosaur, is set for release in November, but it€™s the one arriving this summer that is really exciting. Inside Out, the company€™s first €˜new€™ movie since 2012€™s Brave, follows the emotions that exist inside the mind of a young girl, Riley as she is uprooted from her childhood home in the Midwest so her father can start a job in San Francisco. Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness live in Headquarters, the control centre inside Riley€™s mind, and the film sees them come into conflict as they each try to determine her actions and how she deals with her new surroundings. It€™s a rather fantastic concept, the sort of clever, original idea Pixar became known for in the first place, and should serve as a real return to form for the studio. Amy Poehler (Joy), Bill Hader (Fear), Lewis Black (Anger), Mindy Kaling (Disgust) and Phyllis Smith (Sadness) will be voicing the emotions, with Kaitlyn Dias, Diane Lane and Kyle McLachlan lending their vocal talents to Riley and her parents. Pete Doctor, who directed and wrote both Monsters Inc. and Up, has been in charge of this one, and it€™s due for release on July 24 in the UK, and June 19 in the US.
