10 Established Actors Who Completely Failed At Being Action Stars
6. Jennifer Garner
Attempts: Daredevil (2003), Elektra (2005)
Jennifer Garner's brief foray into action films began an ended with a failed superhero mini-franchise. Which is odd, because she'd spent 5 years campily kicking ass on the hit TV series Alias, which featured Garner as an international spy and master of disguise.
But the transaction to action films hit a wall immediately when she was cast as Elektra in Daredevil, which would turn out to rival Ben Affleck's other 2003 release (Gigli) as his biggest box office debacle. Daredevil wasn't a terrible movie -- the passage of time has softened critiques that the movie was too moody and death-obsessed -- but it didn't inspire much confidence in Garner as a superheroine.
That weariness was proven correct with the release of her spin-off movie, Elektra. It wasn't all her fault. Garner was treated too much like a still comic book image, all pouty lips and awkward poses that accentuate the fact that, yes, she's a grown woman.
She was an able martial artist, at least, but it's like the personality had been sucked out of her before the directory yawned "action".
