10 Even More Insane Over The Top Horror Movies

8. The Wicker Man (2006)

Robin Hardy's The Wicker Man is touted as one of the best folk horrors of all time. So, for this reason, it seemed unlikely any remake could ever measure up to that 1973 film. However, nobody could've anticipated how mindbogglingly awful Neil LaBute's redo was.

That original was a slow-burn detective thriller that focused on eerie tension and unsettling imagery rather than outlandish scares. The 2006 version, on the other hand, contains scenes of Nicolas Cage's character performing roundhouse kicks, punching women while dressed as a bear, and screaming about bees. Despite already having a reputation for outlandish performances, The Wicker Man might be the movie that singlehandedly turned Cage into a meme.

Even though criticism is often directed towards the Face/Off actor, every facet of this needless remake is off-kilter. Thanks to the incohesive tone, many dramatic scenes are undercut by awkward pauses, strange line deliveries, and unintentionally hilarious shots.

As perfectly highlighted below, the performances range from wooden to hammy, making it next to impossible to take any of the actors seriously.

2006's The Wicker Man is arguably more entertaining than its predecessor, but not for the reason the filmmakers intended.
