10 Even More Insane Over The Top Horror Movies

7. My Name Is Bruce

Bruce Campbell has built a legacy starring in wacky horror indies like the Evil Dead trilogy, Maniac Cop, and Bubba Ho-Tep. But one entry in Campbell's CV that doesn't get enough credit is My Name Is Bruce.

In this horror-comedy, Bruce plays an exaggerated version of himself who's unable to find work outside Z-list garbage. When four teens accidentally awaken a horde of demons, they beg Campbell to save them, mistaking him as a hero in the same vein as his Evil Dead persona, Ash Williams. Believing this is all part of his latest film project, Campbell agrees, oblivious he's facing off against genuine monsters.

As expected, there's a lot of meta-humour relating to the lead star's career. However, the majority of the gags work on their own, so My Name Is Bruce isn't just for Evil Dead fanatics. The film is surprisingly unpredictable, deliberately not going for the obvious punchlines (including one great joke involving Ash's iconic chainsaw).

The sets and costumes look amateur, but it works in the movie's favour since it's supposed to emulate a trashy horror indie and serve as a love letter to the genre.

My Name Is Bruce only recouped one-tenth of its budget, but that doesn't change the fact this underrated meta-horror deserves more attention.
