Spies Like Us is an often forgotten buddy comedy movie starring Chevy Chase and Dan Ackroyd as two hapless secret agents on a Cold War mission.

If you've seen that Family Guy episode with Chase and Ackroyd in it, this film was the inspiration.

It was directed by John Landis, featured cameos from the likes of Terry Gilliam, Frank Oz, and B. B. King, and even had a theme song recorded by Paul McCartney. However, there was nearly another famous name attached to the movie.

Landis and Ackroyd had a long-standing relationship with comedic actor John Belushi. The three had made The Blues Brothers together and the two actors' partnership stretched all the way back to the early days of Saturday Night Live.

Chevy Chase's character of Emmett Fitz-Hume was originally earmarked for Belushi, but fate had other plans. The star sadly passed away in 1982, after the part had been written for him. This halted work on the film, which only got made in 1985,

Belushi was taken from us far too soon, but he leaves behind an incredible body of work for us to remember him by. If only we'd gotten one more classic Ackroyd team-up before his death.
