Disney's relentless crusade to remake all of its classic animated features with real people has now absorbed movies like The Lion King, The Jungle Book, and Dumbo.

One of the earliest examples of this trend is 2015's Cinderella, the well-known tale of glass slippers, pumpkin carriages, and annoying singing mice.

Directed by Kenneth Branagh - his weirdest directorial credit alongside the first two Thor movies - this version of the story has Lily James play the titular princess. This was actually her breakout role, paving the way for her appearances in Baby Driver, The Dig, and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

But her big break almost went to an actor with a more magical history.

Harry Potter star Emma Watson was in talks to play Cinderella as early as 2013. You can tell that Disney regretted her walking away from the movie, because they cast her in an almost identical position for the live action Beauty and the Beast just two years later.

There's no way she could have done both roles, unless she happened to have some sort of device that allowed her to turn back time.
