10 Everyday Things Horror Movies Have Made Terrifying
8. Night Time
Nothing bad ever seems to happen in the daytime during a horror movie. Instead the climatic string of terrors and killings has to happen during the night time. Just thinking about the all the things that accompany the night, it's no wonder why its prime time for all types of spooky happenings.
First and foremost it is dark, keeping a lot of movements and motion hidden, even to trained eyes, with street lights providing just enough to light the path, but keep everything else obscure. The other factor of night is the people, or lack-thereof. With most of the world having returned from work and gone to bed, they can't be of much help even if the screams do awaken them.
Night has been used as the backdrop for horror for thousands of years, going all the way back to the oral tradition of the ghost stories. With these stories having persisted as long as they have, its a wonder humanity as a whole isn't bipolar with terror as day continuously turns to night.
Whether a viewer has watched their first horror movie in few years, or they're a fan who has to watch one every two weeks, they'll always find themselves a little bit more tense on that nightly walk back home from the pub. They may even leave a little light on when they settle into bed.
