10 Exact Horror Movie Moments You Knew Characters Were Screwed

8. Louis Uses The Pet Sematary A THIRD Time - Pet Sematary

Few horror movie protagonists have been hoist by their own petard quite as successfully as Louis Creed (Dale Midkiff), the "hero" of the 1989 Pet Sematary adaptation.

After Louis uses the ancient burial ground behind his house to revive the family's dead cat - albeit as an empty, zombie-like husk - his son Gage (Miko Hughes) is killed in a car accident.

A grieving Louis then uses the burial ground again in order to bring Gage "back" from the dead - against the advice of local eccentric Jud Crandall (Fred Gwynne) - reanimated as a murderous shadow of his former self.

Near film's end, Gage kills Jud and Louis' wife Rachel (Denise Crosby), prompting Louis to kill the resurrected version of his son. And while that should probably be the end of the story, Louis decides to use the pet cemetery one more time in an attempt to bring Rachel back to life.

To the surprise of absolutely no-one, the final scene of the movie sees Louis reunited with a grotesque revenant version of his wife, who promptly grabs a knife and presumably stabs him to death as the film ends.

You can maybe forgive the guy for bringing his dead son back while in the throes of grief, but repeating that terrible life decision confirmed he was destined for the chopping block.
