10 Exact Moments Directors Knew They Wouldn't Make Movie Sequels
7. Thor: The Dark World's Post-Production Chewed Up Alan Taylor
When Alan Taylor got the job of directing Thor: The Dark World, the film had already been offered to three different directors before him. Kenneth Branagh needed a rest after directing the first film, Brian Kirk stood down due contractual sticking points, and Patty Jenkins had left due to creative differences with Marvel. Looking back, this might have given Taylor a hint of the problems he might encounter whilst making the film.
Although the film was a commercial success, and he enjoyed his time on-set, Taylor found the post-production experience not to his liking. Initially he was told that he had full creative control, but once shooting was wrapped up it appeared as though the Marvel hierarchy took over proceedings.
He has been quoted as finding the whole process "wrenching." Seeing the film he had envisaged being turned into something else completely different, Taylor later stated "that is something I hope never to repeat and don’t wish upon anybody else."
