10 Exact Moments Horror Movie Villains Knew They’d Lost

1. Hasta La Vista, Captain - Pan's Labyrinth

While not your traditional horror film, Guillermo del Toro's dark fantasy Pan's Labyrinth is as horrific as it is beautiful - whether that's the horrors of the Spanish Civil War being explicitly shown, or the terrifying creatures protagonist Ofelia has to confront.

Sure, the mesmerising figure of the Pale Man may get plentiful attention, but Pan's Labyrinth's most twisted character is the very human, cold, cruel, and calculating Captain Vidal.

From the moment the audience and Ofelia meet Vidal, everything he does carries a streak of malice and an underbelly of sinister intentions. He's evil to the core, and we're constantly reminded of that right the way through until he kills Ofelia - an innocent child - at the end of the movie.

However, when Vidal escapes the titular labyrinth with his infant son, his heart sinks as he's greeted by the guerrilla freedom fighters he's been tormenting throughout the film. Knowing he's doomed, the Captain hands over his son and requests that these fighters tell the youngster everything about him. In response, it's said that this kiddo won't even know Vidal's name.

As a look of horror flashes over his face, Captian Vidal is swiftly shot and killed.
