6. Kya Is The Killer - Where The Crawdads Sing

Where the Crawdads Sing wasn't a particularly good movie anyway, but its hilariously unnecessary final plot twist basically sealed the deal.

The story follows Kya (Daisy Edgar-Jones), a young woman who raised herself to adulthood and is viewed with suspicion by the locals, especially when a local star quarterback, Chase (Harris Dickinson), turns up dead and she's accused of his murder.

Even acknowledging that Chase attempted to rape Kya, we're led to believe that Kya is being effectively set up to take the fall because of the prejudice the local townsfolk hold against her.

Yet ultimately Kya is found not guilty at the end of the film, with her lawyer Tom (David Strathairn) making it abundantly clear that the circumstances necessary for Kya to have killed Chase are just too contrived and ridiculous to make much sense.

And yet, mere minutes later it's revealed that, in fact, Kya did kill Chase, implying that everything we've just heard is pretty much how it all actually played out.

There's nothing quite like a film pointing out how ludicrously far-fetched a character's revenge plot is before, you know, confirming it to have indeed taken place. Yikes.
