10 Exact Moments That Doomed Horror Movie Villains
7. Mrs. Carmody Tries To Sacrifice Billy - The Mist
In Frank Darabont's superb The Mist, Marcia Gay Harden gives a phenomenal performance as Mrs. Carmody, a crazed religious fanatic who believes the mist to be an act of God.
She amasses a growing legion of followers and believes that they need to sacrifice some of the survivors inside the supermarket in order to survive, eventually suggesting sacrificing protagonist David Drayton's (Thomas Jane) son Billy (Nathan Gamble).
This ends up being one step too far, though, and when Carmody and her zealots try to take Billy by force, Carmody gets fatally shot by store manager Ollie (Toby Jones), in what's surely one of the most satisfying villain deaths in horror movie history.
Carmody was obviously entirely committed to her zany beliefs and had not a shred of doubt in her mind that offering up Billy was the "right" thing to do, even if there was no way in hell David or the other non-zealots were simply going to let her kill a child.
By reluctantly killing Carmody, Ollie basically prevented everyone in the supermarket tearing each other apart in a frenzy, as Carmody's former followers then realise the insanity of her actions and return to their senses.
