A lot of people forget that Julianne Moore has been in a huge number of truly iconic films. Well, she was featured in them, but never necessarily celebrated for her performances. When critics would review these movies, Julianne Moore would usually get a shout-out somewhere in the fourth or fifth paragraph, offering mild praise for her work. The unspoken conclusion to any of these lines is, "as usual". We're used to Julianne Moore being one of the top actresses in her age group, so we don't even recognise the quality of her performances anymore. Sure, she gets thrown an Oscar nomination every now and then, but it's been over ten years since she was last honoured by the Academy (Best Actress for Far From Heaven and Best Supporting Actress in The Hours back in 2003). Meanwhile, 23-year-old Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for three Oscars in four years. This is not to say that Jennifer Lawrence is bad and Julianne Moore is good, but it certainly shows which actress's talents are more appreciated.
