3. Schulmädchen-Report (1970 - West Germany)

E2e A teenage girl called Renata is caught in flagrante delicto with the bus driver. The PTA get together to discuss what punishment she will face. One of the parents is a psychologist and suggests that the girl's behaviour shouldn't be punished as it is perfectly natural. The psychologist tells tales of school girls being naughty in a series of dramatised vignettes interspersed with the real life interviews of people on the street. The influence of the 1960s is discussed and in the end, will Renata be punished or not for her sexual hijinks? I absolutely love the Schulmädchen-Report films. They are what inspired me to learn German as I watched the girls' sexy antics on German satellite channels. The first Schulmädchen-Report is described as 'Was Eltern nicht für möglich halten,' - literally 'What parents don't think is possible'. I can imagine that back in the 1970s, West German parents might have been shocked at the film with its frank depiction of adolescent sexuality. The film also does a lot of patronising moralising which may have been okay for 70s audiences to swallow but is a tad bit trite for modern tastes. The film is actually pretty restrained in its sleaziness - there is some nudity and soft core fumblings, but it isn't distasteful. The film was immensely popular in West Germany where it spawned 13/14 sequels and many imitators. It also boasts one of the best ever Euro Trash soundtracks by Gert Wilden. In fact the music is so groovy, it is worth the price of admission alone.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
