Darth Caedus, otherwise known as Jacen Solo, Han and Leia's son (SPOILER ALERT!) managed to pose the greatest Sith threat to the galaxy since the Emperor himself. Chronicled in the Legacy of the Force series, Jacen, responsible for winning the Yuuzhan Vong War, slowly begins to descend to the Dark Side. In a series that includes a massive cast of characters such as Luke, Han, Leia, Mara Jade, Luke's son Ben, the twins Jacen and Jaina, the Dark Lady Lumiya (introduced in Marvel's Star Wars comics), and Boba Fett, Jacen rises up to usher in a new era of Sith rule. Darth Caedus kills Mara Jade Skywalker, duels Luke himself to a standstill, wages a war against the Jedi, and alienates his best friend and former apprentice Ben Skywalker. In the end, Jaina Solo is trained by Boba Fett to go up against Jacen and engages him on his flagship. Caedus is stabbed in the chest right at the beginning of the fight but actually manages to continue to hold his own until Jaina finally overpowers him. His last action is to warn his wife and child a selfless deed that may have marked redemption on his part. If any story from the Expanded Universe should be adapted for the sequel trilogy, it should be this one simply because of the parallels to the other movies. Not only does it cover similar themes to the prequels, what with a powerful Jedi falling to the Dark Side and becoming a major threat, but the original trilogy's themes of family members forced to fight each other and redemption in the end are also covered. In the saga of the Skywalkers and their kin, going from fallen Jedi Anakin to Jedi Master Luke to fallen Jedi Jacen creates nice parallelism and also makes for some damn good drama. Thank you so much for reading! Are you as excited for Episode VII as I am? If so, leave a comment and tell me what you are most excited for and if you think any of these Expanded Universe creations may actually make it into the films. Have a great day!
I'm a fan of all things comic book and an avid moviegoer. Trying to catch up on a never-ending backlog of films- maybe someday. Leave me a comment if you enjoy my articles, think I'm a hack, or anywhere in between.
