10 Expanded Universe Creations That Star Wars 7 Could Incorporate
2. The Yuuzhan Vong War
The 19-book series The New Jedi Order introduced the Yuuzhan Vong, a race of extragalactic invaders who are completely blind to the Force, meaning not only that they cannot use it but that they can't be sensed through it. This new series turned the Star wars galaxy on its head, causing the death of Chewbacca and Anakin Solo, the fall of Coruscant, and the birth of Luke and Mara Skywalker's son, Ben. The adaptation of the Yuuzhan Vong War would make for an excellent new trilogy, not to mention one significantly darker than even Revenge of the Sith. The first film could detail the first wave of the invasion, the death of Chewbacca, and a small victory at the end; the second film would then follow the fall of Coruscant and the general defeat of the New Republic; finally, Episode IX would show a triumphant victory, the retaking of Coruscant, and the expulsion of the Vong from the galaxy. Although it is unlikely that the filmmakers would adapt this storyline (or anything from the Expanded Universe), it would be very cool to show its influences on the galaxy. Trillions of beings died in the Yuuzhan Vong War and several planets, like Coruscant, remained scarred by their organic implants and destruction of technology. If Abrams' script does in fact make reference to the Vong, legions of fans would be happy. A direct adaptation would usher in a whole new era of Star Wars unlike any ever before seen.
I'm a fan of all things comic book and an avid moviegoer. Trying to catch up on a never-ending backlog of films- maybe someday. Leave me a comment if you enjoy my articles, think I'm a hack, or anywhere in between.
