10 Expanded Universe Creations That Star Wars 7 Could Incorporate

5. Chewbacca's Death

When the writers of the Expanded Universe grew tired of constantly using the Empire as villains in their books, they created the Yuuzhan Vong, an extragalactic Force-blind species of butchering aliens. The first book of the series needed to establish the Vong as a credible threat, so the writers reached out to George Lucas and asked if they could kill off Luke Skywalker. Lucas turned down the request, and the writers instead chose Chewbacca to kick the bucket. On a mission to a planet called Sernpidal to pick up supplies for Lando Calrissian, Han, Chewbacca, and Han's son Anakin discover that the Yuuzhan Vong are moving the planet's moon into a collision course. The three manage to save thousands of lives and are almost ready to depart when Anakin is blown away from the Millennium Falcon. Chewbacca manages to throw him on board, but cannot reach the Falcon in time- Anakin pilots the ship away as Han reaches out to grab his friend. Chewbacca roars in defiance as the moon crashes into the planet, killing him. The inclusion of Chewbacca into Episode VII will be the easiest way to tell if the filmmakers are going to follow the Expanded Universe. His presence in the movie would instantly invalidate the entire New Jedi Order series as canon, and therefore Abrams and crew may decide to reference him as dead, kill him in a new way, or directly adapt his death (should they use the Yuuzhan Vong War as inspiration).
