10 Extreme Movie Scenes That Left Stars Scarred
3. Billy Gets Stabbed For Real - Scream
Horror maestro Wes Craven wasn’t above utilizing dirty tricks to get his actors as appropriately terrified as his audience. Poor animal lover Drew Barrymore was regaled with gruesome (hopefully fictitious) stories of pet cruelty in order to evince a traumatised and hysterical performance from her in Scream's iconic opening scene.
However, the most dramatic case of unintentional method acting onset didn’t come from the director’s chair. In fact, it was an accident which made it into the film despite being completely unplanned.
When it came time for (spoilers) Skeet Ulrich’s dreamy boyfriend/psychotic killer character Billy to be dispatched by the GOAT final girl Sidney Prescott, the stuntwoman filling in for Neve Campbell had trouble seeing through the film’s signature Ghostface mask.
This resulted in some slightly off aim, which itself resulted in a genuine shriek of pain from Ulrich when she actually stabbed his chest with the point of an umbrella.
Unfortunately for the actor, the stuntwoman jabbed the same spot where he bore a scar from recent heart surgery, meaning the accident’s impact was a lot worse than it might have been.
