10 Extremely Subtle Movie Cameos That Went Straight Over Your Head

1. Raymond Chandler Can Be Seen Taking A Seat In Double Indemnity

You'll know Raymond Chandler as one of literature's most acclaimed crime writers, and not at all for his subtle movie cameos - that's because, up until 2009, nobody even knew that Chandler had ever made a movie cameo. Seriously.

Best known for works such as The Big Sleep, Farewell My Lovely and The Long Goodbye. He also penned the screenplay for Billy Wilder's noir classic Double Indemnity, the movie where Chandler's cameo takes place. And it was so minor and so understated that the world just didn't notice until 60 years after the movie's originally release. Watching it, you can see why.

At the movie's 16 minute mark, Chandler simply sits on a chair and vaguely looks up at Fred McMurray as he walks past. That's it. It lasts about two seconds. But it's rather amazing that this discovery came so late - nobody involved in the production of the movie ever mentioned that this was filmed, and it's not exactly easy to spot.

Which gives rise to an intriguing question in itself: how many other movie cameos out there have we failed to notice... and who will find them first?

How many of these cameos did you know already? Let us know in the comments section below.
