Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft and Wizardry from the much loved Harry Potter franchise is undeniably the most famous fictional school, beloved by us muggles, who relentlessly read about it and watch the films.

Built before any other school around 993 AD, the castle was set up for non muggles - witches and wizards alike - by the four founding figures Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Gryffindor and has since become a haven for all magic children in England.

It has since encountered a variety of ups and downs throughout the Harry Potter and newest Fantastic Beasts series, the latter of which looks at the history of what came before the famous boy wizard set foot on the grounds. Nobody truly knows all of the secrets that reside within the grounds from when it first came to be, maybe not even Dumbledore himself.

Hogwarts is a mystery to most, but here are just a few fascinating facts that you probably didn't know about the famous fictional school we all wished we went to when we turned eleven years old and waited for our letter.

10. Protection For Students Is Priority

It's no secret that the famous school isn't exactly an ordinary building by any stretch of the imagination. In the books and movies, Hogwarts shows off many of its hidden secrets for Harry Potter and his friends during their stays.

Most famously, in The Order of The Phoenix as Dolores Umbridge rules over the school, the students are left to some dark rules during her reign. In this time, the chosen one's companions soon discover the Room of Requirement, a haven for the most vulnerable of magic kids within the castle that forms to whatever they so desire.

For Harry and his team, a training room is revealed as they plan to fight back against the evil head mistress. During this time, Dumbledore's office was sealed off by the magic school to protect the items in there from getting in to the wrong hands.

Other more commonly known tricks include the Whomping Willow - a tree jinxed to ward off danger and protect the entrance to the Shreaking Shack - and the schools invisibility to muggles who get too close, as they can only see castle ruins and a 'danger, keep off' sign.
