10 Failed Movie Castings That Were A Blessing In Disguise
5. Chris Hemsworth As Duke In G.I. Joe
Remember a time when Chris Hemsworth wasn't the literal physical embodiment of a god? Believe it or not, this Australian action star couldn't get a job to pay his bills - or more specifically his parent's.
Coming to the realisation that his family had 'no money' and that he 'wanted to pay off their house', Hemsworth put himself under a remarkable amount of pressure to obtain a decent role in Hollywood.
This pressure would prove to be counterproductive and Hemsworth would lose out on the role of Duke in the 2009 G.I. Joe film, after coming agonisingly close to clinching the role that would eventually go to Channing Tatum.
Hemsworth was understandably upset about being passed up on, but this dead end forced him to audition for other roles and before long he found himself equipped with a hammer and going by the name of Thor.
If he had been cast as Duke, he would not have been available for the Marvel film and might not have hit the megastar heights that he currently occupies.
