10 Failed Movie Castings That Were A Blessing In Disguise

4. Al Pacino As Han Solo In Star Wars

Even though Harrison Ford spent the majority of his time playing Han Solo wishing that he'd be culled off, he very nearly never strapped on that leather pistol holder to begin with.

It's well documented how Kurt Russel and Christopher Walken came very close to playing the smuggler, but it was The Godfather legend himself, Al Pacino, who actually had the part offered to him.

When A New Hope was in pre-production, Pacino confessed to being at a stage in his career where he 'was offered everything'. So, it came to pass that he was handed the chance to play Solo, only to turn down the role due to not understanding the script.

It's unbelievable to think that, in Pacino's words, the role 'was (his) for the taking' and he could have been a part of one of the biggest film series to ever land on our screens.

Pacino's passing up eventually led to Ford being cast in the career defining role and he would go down in cinematic folklore as the face of one of the world's most beloved anti-heroes.
